Course description

Graduates of the Applied Computer Science – Second Degree program will acquire specialized and in-depth knowledge and skills for work in the broadly defined profession of IT. The program of the course involves the development of technical competence, but also equips students with extensive management skills, which prepares them for executive positions in the IT sector. The designed course of study is a combination – on the one hand, of a classical approach to computer science education, and on the other hand – of incorporating into the study plan modern components related to both modules from the so-called canon and specialized areas of study. Students majoring in Applied Computer Science will also gain highly marketable skills related to IT project management, legal aspects of the IT profession, as well as soft business skills. All this makes it possible to gain practical work experience, which, combined with a solid theoretical foundation, provides an excellent basis for career development.

What will you learn?

The proposed learning outcomes in the curriculum ensure that the graduates:

  • they will use up-to-date and advanced knowledge from the technical computer sciences and telecommunications field and supporting fields: computer science and management and quality sciences,
  • will learn about the relationships and dependencies that occur between business entities and the social institutions that constitute their environment; their nature, goals, patterns and principles from the point of view of applied computer science,
  • based on the obtained theoretical knowledge and practical skills, they will be prepared to work in areas requiring skills in the broad field of ICT,
  • they will also be equipped with the necessary knowledge of management competencies including legal and business aspects of working in IT management positions,
  • in the area of practical skills, graduates of this field of study will be equipped with the appropriate tools necessary to work in complex software development projects, projects related to databases and data warehouses, big data mining and data scientist, widely understood issues of system security and cyber security, mobile application programming,
  • will be able to effectively form positive relationships within the IT team,
  • will master the tools of project management and the legal and economic aspects of the IT manager’s work,
  • will possess language skills in the field of technical computing and telecommunications (specialized language), in accordance with the requirements specified for level B2+ of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages,
  • in the area of social skills, graduates of this course will be ready to work in multicultural teams, be highly communication-oriented and open to sharing knowledge and transferring practical skills acquired during their studies.

Future job prospects

Graduates have the opportunity to work in large softwarehouses, companies specializing in analysis and processing of large data sets, as well as in the sector of IT solution integrators.
